It is also an area of potential conflict because having Notre Dame
with 1 foot in the ACC and 1 foot out of the ACC can make the ACC look "weak" as being the only power conference with a partial member. Particularly when the partial membership impacts the 2 revenue sports. Personally, I don't believe Notre Dame deceived the ACC when they were discussing the partnership. I do think that the ACC may have been fooling itself to think the ACC could be the exception to whatever Notre Dame was saying at the time. I guess it is even possible that ESPN wouldn't consider creating a conference network for the ACC unless Notre Dame was affiliated with the ACC in any capacity.
Yes, the ACC-Notre Dame has produced some good things. However, it may have or end up producing just as many bad things too before the current contract expires through no direct action of either party. I would consider the Big Ten's and Pac-12's decision on Notre Dame's status as a "bad thing" for the ACC even though the ACC and Notre Dame bear no responsibility for the actions of the 2 other conferences. I would feel the exact same way if the ACC announced that its games against Notre Dame would count as either Big Ten or Pac-12 games too.
